Jordan is a beautiful low-key country in the Middle East. Most people don’t know much about it, and that’s usually a good sign. It could also be because if you google it, you get a pair of shoes instead of a whole country.

Expensive shoes aside, it’s a super safe country full of history, friendly locals, diverse foods and plays a role in biblical history. Amman has a very complex history and you can definitely see the thumbprint of different civilisations there.

Where to Stay?

Amman is a good start to your journey and I would recommend you to stay there 2-3 days. You can visit the Amman citadel, As-Salt area for beautiful views that’s nearby. If you’re a big group, I recommend staying in an airbnb apartment since you get to have a bigger space, and live in a local area for sometimes cheaper.

Solo Friendly or Not?

Out of 5 I would give it one solo-friendly star. This is because traveling around by public transport is not so easy, you would need a car to see most of the attractions. And I feel Amman as a city is not very jam-packed with things to do, it could feel lonely at times especially if you can’t speak Arabic. And overall, it could be expensive for a solo-traveller as it’s harder to share rooms and meals to budget your trip.

What to Visit?

Nearby Amman I recommend visiting the Citadel and getting the guided tour, try to negotiate the price if you can. Near Amman, you can drive to As-salt, and the Dead Sea as well. I recommend the Oh Beach resort as it’s not so expensive for the services you get.

And of course, a visit to Jordan is not complete if you didn’t visit the ancient city of Petra and walked the beautiful red desert in Wadi Rum. Reserve 2-3 days at least to maximise those attractions.

I also highly recommend getting the Jordan Pass, but that’s only if you’re not a citizen from an Arab country. The Jordan Pass includes the Entry Visa cost and access to all attractions in the country, so it’s a pretty good deal.

Where to Eat

Khashooka for breakfast: Have the fattah, the falafel, and the tomato salad spiced with sumac. You will absolutely thank me.

Mijana located in Rainbow Street has a beautiful outside courtyard seating area, and has a wide variety of food options and shisha.

Musally shawarma, go there for delicious Syrian-style shawerma.

Peking Restaurant ya’ll don’t judge me, but this place had amazing Chinese food. It’s 100% not authentic Chinese food but it’s absolutely delicious
